Is it just me or does anyone else detect cinnamaldehyde and floral notes in uni? I can't find any evidence of it (there aren't many studies on aroma compounds in uni) but I suspect they're there in some form. At any rate, they make an interesting and tasty mouthful.

These days, I'm finding more inspired service ware in in the candle department than in tableware. I've searched for the better part of a year for an aesthetic piece that would steadily hold a spoon or fork for an amuse. This glass votive holder from IKEA does just that and at 8$/pc I can afford to invest in a number of them.
Now that I've divulged…make sure you leave some for me.
I’ve often noticed candle holders look like good service pieces. CB2 makes cute little votive holders that would make good shot glasses for soup (or shots, for that matter!). I also have some of these IKEA egg cups:

…they have a little dimple on the handle that should nicely hold a skewer of something to go with a shot of soup. Haven’t actually used them yet, though. 🙂

That votive holder is very cool indeed. When I saw your picture it immediately took me back to this tea-smoked lychee amuse I made last year. I don’t eat uni, so I can’t say, but if it has floral notes, would it work with the smoky-floral lychee?

I often get hints of spice and floral notes in uni but I’m not sure I could narrow it down to cinnamon and rose. Also sometimes strawberry or something similar to the florally citrus notes of a good blood orange.
