i love these things! i had no idea what they were called though. i buy them in the freezer section of my ‘local’ asian market. im so addicted to them. some sticky rice, a bit of chopped umeboshi and some natto and soy. perfect breakfast!

Funny how you can’t order it in a Japanese restaurant as a ‘non-Asian’ and not have the server question and doubt your choice for fear of having it sent back to the kitchen. A required ‘Yes, I’ve had it before’ and ‘yes, I know what it is’ seems to always be necessary. You would think you were asking them for stinky tofu on a shingle or something.
definitely not my favorite soy bean form. You are brave.

Mm, Natto! I haven’t had this since I lived in Japan. It’s interesting at first, but soon becomes quite tasty. Beautiful photos too!
